Vienna and Rayne

Rayne, you are loved

Dear Rayne,

It is late Saturday night where we are and it's raining (there's been a super crazy snow storm where you are safe with nanna and super G). I haven't seen you since Tuesday and I miss you terribly. I miss all my little kidlets but hearing the rain falling outside made me think of you and why I named you Rayne.  I love the rain. It makes me feel safe when I hear it's rhythm on the roof. It's a gentle lullaby. If I'm caught in the rain, it reminds me of happily running through it wildly with my little sister Genevieve at my mom and dad's farm years ago. If it's a rainstorm, excitement flows through me. I don't know why. It just does. There's an awesome power in rain. It makes things grow and washes the earth clean. Streets that were dusty shine and thirsty flowers sparkle as if it wasn't really rain but diamonds that fell from the sky. I'm sure that in some places and times in the world diamonds would be traded in a second for rain. I would always trade any amount of diamonds for you.
So my love, you may get teased by some dumb kids in your life because of your name, but please know, it is one of my most favorite things in the world - and I got to name you. Daddy named Vienna so he needs to tell her why he picked that name.
Love Always,
Mom

An Achievement

Dear Vienna,

The other day you did your zipper up all by yourself. We were just
leaving Shoppers Drug Mart after picking up some milk so we could make
pancakes and I looked down and noticed you had done up your coat! You
are extremely agile with those sweet pudgy fingers of yours. I asked
you to do it again so I could take pictures of it. You'll thank me
when you're older and you can brag to your friends about this feat. ;)

Love Mom

Latest sayings...

Hey Sweeties,

A few fun new things you have been doing/saying lately :)

1: On the weekend you guys came with Dad to iPhoneDevcamp - in the room at the UofC you both just started screaming "echo, echo, echo" :)

2: Vienna: you've started saying 'COO COO cachoo' in the car :)

3: Rayne: I tried giving you a new nickname 'raynebow' and what you've started saying is... 'i'm rayne - not 'raynebow' :)

Love you ladies!

p.s. Today was the first day we made a fort in the living room - you guys wanted to slide down the top :)

Love Dad

Your UnBirthday Party

Dear Vienna and Rayne,

Because your birthday is right after Christmas and just before New Years Eve, your birthday is generally an after thought. We're very sorry about this. To make it up to you, we've decided to have multiple unbirthday parties for you throughout the year. (So much better right?) :) This was Dad's idea. He is officially known as the VP of Fun in the Sikorsky household.
So this was the day... We started off with a play date (mommy was kind of working) at Leah's house. You were too shy to really play until it was time to go two hours later.
Then, McDonalds, where you got buhguz and fies and off to Ice Age 3 at the cheap theaters. I'm not really sure if it's worth the HUGE savings because, gosh, you have to deal with A LOT of really annoying people. And since I have ADD, I hear EVERYTHING. Ugh. We had to move seats to a 'quieter' area of the theater, away from the kids who were talking like they were at their own private theater - hello parents, if you don't want to tell your kids to keep it down at the theater, don't go, rent it and stop being a jerk. Anyway, I really don't like the theater, but I'll do it for you my dear sunshines. You LOVE the big movie. You also got to snuggle up with Mom and Dad (Tristjan had to sit solo) and eat popcorn, vitamin water and reeces pieces. Yup. Junk food. You love junk food.
When the movie was barely over, you both asked to go home. You really like home too. Just like Dad. :)
On our way home, we stopped at the Dollar Store and Dad let you load up the basket with party hats and other goodies. (I always get embarrassed that Dad lets you fill up the basket with whatever you can grab, cause we don't ever buy everything in the basket. Dad just leaves the 'fun' basket for some bored, under paid employee to put away while we put the items we actually want in a fresh, empty basket.) I also picked you up a few secret presents. (At only a dollar, you can't go wrong.)
Off again, to buy your unbirthday cake. A chocolate cheesecake. When we got home, we all put on the birthday hats and Dad sneaked off to wrap your very special presents (plastic high heels, plastic earrings and plastic lipstick). I have to admit, you didn't get this girlie streak from me. I suspect Nana had something to do with that.
We had ruben sandwiches for supper and then sang you happy unbirthday a few times. It was such a fun day. Oh, I just reminded myself that there is still some of that cheesecake in the fridge calling out to me. Yay! :)

A new kitchen

This is the kitchen your dad decided to get for you instead of the Ikea one I found. We spent two hours tonight getting to step 23 - 20 more steps to go and we've stripped a few screws and forced a few dowels in place. I think you'll be happy tomorrow sometime. We'll get back at it in the morning. :)

You are connected.

Silly Me. I really thought I was your number one.

Saturday you spent the day with Nanna and Super G and they took you to the zoo. You shared a hotdog and each had an ice cream cone. Plus you also got a stuffed monkey. You both came home super tired, but only Rayne took a nap with Mommy. Vienna 'slept' with Daddy, quotes means Vienna didn't really sleep. So because Vienna slept on the way home (way too late) Rayne went to bed at her normal time and Vienna got to stay up late with the big kids and watch 'I Love You, Man'.

Vienna, we thought you would be so happy to go to bed with us when it came time. But you wouldn't settle down, which is unusual for you. I asked you what was wrong and you asked, "Where is Rayne?" I asked you if you wanted to sleep with Rayne and you said "Yups". So I took you to your room with your sister and you went to sleep like butter.

You two have a special bond. I think I'm more like number two now, well, maybe 1.3. :)

Your First Haircut!

Well, what happens when we don't watch you even for a second?

Dad and I were working at the kitchen table while you two were supposed to be drawing. We must have been a little too engrossed in our work because without us noticing in a matter of minutes the two of you had hid behind us and each of you gave yourself a haircut. Rayne alerted me and said, "eNna, cut hair." (Notice how you didn't say, "I cut hair".)

After, I gave you both a bowl cut, to avoid the hockey head haircut.

P.s. Vienna, you can draw a face already (without coaching). Complete with eyes, nose, mouth and ears. And sometimes crazy hair to match Dad's.

I've attached another funny photo of Tristjan having fun with you two. He wrapped you up in a towel and toted you around. You pretended to be a baby.

And another photo of you working on Dad's hair. He was sleeping after working too hard.

No!!!

Dear Vienna,

As it is with many toddlers, your favorite word is No!

Do you want to go to bed?

NO, No, NO!!

Do you want to get into your pajamas?

NnnnnnnnO!

Do you want ice cream!

no?

So, the other night when I went into your room to give you your 2nd tucking in of the night (I do this when it's my turn to go to bed) I must have disturbed you in your restful slumber, because as I tightened up the bedding to make sure you don't kick off the blankets throughout the night, you let out a soft and sleepy, nnooo....

I had to leave the room to stifle my giggles.

Love you,

Mom.
